Jerry Leiber, the man who together with Mike Stoller wrote a rock and roll era’s worth of hits, has died at the age of 78.
Leiber and Stoller wrote the Elvis Presley classics ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and ‘Hound Dog’, The Drifters ‘Ruby Baby’ and The Coasters ‘Yakety Yak’ just to name a few. Jerry also wrote the Aretha Franklin classic ‘Spanish Harlem’.
They have been called “the most enduring songwriters of the rock and roll era”.
Leiber and Stoller songs have been recorded by The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin and Buddy Holly.
Jerry was born Jerome Leiber on April 25, 1933.
