The internet got it wrong again. Etta James is alive and well.
The latest victim of the internet death hoax is Etta James.
Somebody put together a fake TMZ page announcing the singer's death and people, a LOT of people, fell for it. Word has been spreading via Twitter and Facebook about James' passing. The people at BluesLand searched the TMZ site and couldn't find the story but did find an earlier piece on her leukemia diagnosis that looked exactly like the hoax page.
This story seemed to spread quickly because James has had numerous health crisis over the last couple of years, including diagnosis of leukemia and dementia, and most presumed that she had passed in due course. Luckily for the world, it was just an elaborate ruse.
