Punk veterans the Dead Kennedys start legal action against Heineken for unauthorised song use.
Pitchfork reports that the beer giant was using the Dead Kennedys song ‘Too Drunk To Fuck’ to promote their Kronenbourg 1664 brand.
They were actually using a lounge version of the song that was recorded by French cover act Nouvelle Vague in an online ad.
While they removed the ad from Spotify earlier this month, the Dead Kennedys have said in a press release that their still pursuing legal action.
They note, “Dead Kennedys emphatically deny that they ever gave Heineken permission to use the song. The band's attorneys have contacted Heineken to address the un-authorized use.
“Dead Kennedys have never authorized any company to use this song or any of the band's songs to promote a consumer product (let alone the consumption of alcohol) in this or any advertisement."
Strange choice of song for a beer brand, regardless of authorisation.
