One of Australia’s favourites - Cold Chisel - are back with their biggest tour in nearly 30 years, taking in stadiums from coast to coast in Australia and New Zealand.
“We can't wait to get back on the road together”, Jimmy Barnes said in a statement. “Every day for years I've had at least one person come up and ask me when Cold Chisel are going to do a proper tour. I'm bloody glad to finally have something good to tell 'em!”
The tour comes hot on the heels of a whole lot of their albums being reissued, remastered and sounding bloody great.
It’s also the first time the band will have played since the passing of their drummer Steve Prestwich.
“When the four of us finally sat down to talk about it we realised we all felt the same way,” keyboardist and chief songwriter Don Walker said in a statement. Steve was really keen on seeing all these things happen. We all felt it would have been wrong to just walk away from the plans we'd started together.”
“At one point we actually thought about calling the tour 'Unfinished Business'," added bassist Phil Small. "After that 2009 gig we'd all quietly decided to try to do something big. To have bailed out just a few months from actually doing it would actually have felt like we were letting Steve down.”
Replacing Prestwich behind the kit will be the amazing Charley Drayton (Keith Richards and the X-Pensive Winos, B52s, Divinyls).
According to a press release, the set list will “feature more than 20 of their classic songs”. The band are working on a new record, but there are no plans to release it before this tour, so while you might get a sneak peek at the record, it won’t be a full set of songs you’re still getting used to.
Shows will be in stadiums, amphitheatres, showgrounds and where nothing else is available, their own big top tent.
