UK pop superstar Robbie Williams heads into a US rehab centre on his 33rd birthday.
Following news reports, a very brief statement on his website confirms the news. It says, "Robbie Williams has today been admitted into a treatment centre in America for his dependency on prescription drugs. There will be no further comment."London's Evening Standard suggests that Williams is addicted to anti-depressants. They speculate that he is in the strict Meadows clinic in Arizona, which is less of a fancy day spa than most celebrity rehab centres. They report that it's officially a Level 1 Psychiatric Acute hospital.
Former girlfriend Lisa D'Amato has been recently quoted that the pop idol was using anti-depressants, and he confessed to being on them a year after he gave up drinking. D'Amato is quoted as saying, "It was clear he was struggling with his mind. He doesn't drink but he needs antidepressants to get him through the day. A lot of the time he seemed on edge."
His website seems to be doing business as usual, the statement followed by a Valentine Card generator and promotion for his new single 'She's Madonna'.
