Screaming Jets frontman Dave Gleeson is now fronting Rick Brewster’s Angels.
The all-new Angels lead by founding member Rick Brewster played a few shows in Sydney recently and will now kick the project into a more permanent arrangement.
“We had one rehearsal the day before and it felt like we'd been playing together for years,” said Rick. “The audience was as pumped as we were and it just got better and better the more they gave it back to us. I just can't wait to finish the first album with this band and play more shows!”
For Gleeson, it was a chance to rock out again like he had not done since his Screaming Jets days. “The crowd was awesome, the Annandale Hotel was packed front to back,” he said. “I was loving every minute of it. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the show, you rocked.”
Plans are now underway for an album and more dates around Australia.
The Angels formed in Adelaide as The Moonshine Jug and String Band in 1970. In 1974 they became The Keystone Angels and shorted that to The Angels the following year when they signed to Alberts on the recommendation of Bon Scott and Malcolm Young.
Their first hit single ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’ was later to become an audience favourite. Today, it is the audience participation part of the show where the audience responds “no way, get fucked, fuck off” whenever they sing the title.
In the USA, the band were called Angel City to avoid legal issues with another act already called The Angels.
The Screaming Jets formed in Newcastle in 1989 with Gleeson as frontman. They were hugely influenced by The Angels. They had hits with original songs ‘Better’, ‘Stop The World’, ‘Shine On’ as well as the covers ‘Eve Of Destruction’ and ‘Shivers’ in the 90s.
Gleeson is not performing any Screaming Jets songs with Rick Brewster’s Angels.
