1991 was a very good year for British music. The world was hearing from Jesus Jones, and The Wonder Stuff and in Australia The Clouds were gaining momentum.
Collectively the three bands have teamed for an Australian tour, presented by Undercover.fm.
Iain Baker from Jesus Jones recalls the excitement of 1991. “It was very exciting. There was lots of different music happening at the same time,” he tells Undercover.fm. “House and hardcore was happening at the same time. Lots of rock bands were starting too. You could do different things”.
While Jesus Jones was getting a band from the UK, at the same time in Seattle, Nirvana were also about to explode. “Grunge was so far removed from what we were doing,” he says. “We didn’t consider that a threat. That would mean that you thought of the charts for success.”
Iain says that in the band’s downturn, people thought they had broken up but they have always been together. “We all stayed friends but after a while it was easy for people to think we broke up but we never did.”
He thanks his Australian promoter Select for getting in contact and bringing them down. “Australia got in contact with us and said ‘do you want to play’ so the tour with The Wonder Stuff then The Clouds was put together.
