When The Clouds go on the road in August it will be the first time they have performed together in 14 years. That last gig was in Brisbane.
“I’m really looking forward to playing our old songs again,” Jodie Phillis tells undercover.fm.
The Clouds have reformed to tour with Jesus Jones and The Wonder Stuff. They are so prepared for it that they already have their setlist together. “It was a hard thing to work out,” Jodi says. “It took us about 15 hours to put together”.
They will play four songs from their debut album ‘Penny Century’. “It is kind of a best of set,” Jodi said.
The band broke up originally because, “I got sick of touring. I wasn’t sleeping well and became an insomniac,” she says. “I was over rocking out. We had our quiet moments but there weren’t enough. Then I had children and Trish had children”.
The Clouds were indie before their time. Nowadays, nearly every band is an indie band but now it is common. “We stopped around the time it changed,” she says. “It’s more out of necessity these days and now because of the Internet you can be independent easier.”
For The Clouds, signed to indie label Red Eye, a clash of cultures came when Red Eye became part of Phonogram Records, which today is Universal Music. “That gave us money to ravel overseas,” she says. But then there were more opinions of how we should sound and which singles we should release and what we sounded like. We were at loggerheads”.
And just to let a little secret out of the bag, Undercover hears there will be a warm-up show before the tour. If you are in Sydney, keep an ear out for a band called “The Louds” scheduled to play at The Brass Monkey in Cronulla soon.
