You Am I, Tumbleweed and more will pay tribute to Nick Cave at this year’s legendary Community Cup.
The 2011 Reclink Community Cup – that annual music and football institution where the Triple R/PBS Megahertz face off against the Espy Rockdogs – will lay the boot in on Sunday 26 June at Elsternwick Park in Elsternwick.
There are many stars on the field, from You Am I’s Tim Rogers to blues sensation Dan Sultan to Big Scary’s Jo Syme to Rockdogs coach Paul Kelly, but the rock action around the game will pay tribute to Australia’s goth godfather Nick Cave.
From 11 am, before the kick-off, Red Rockets Of Borneo, The Mercy Kills and The Rebelles will be slipping in their own takes on the Dark One’s songs.
The game starts at 2pm, with stoner rock legends Tumbleweed playing at half-time, also having a shot at some Nick Cave music.
And following the game, once all the rock dogs and radio jocks have been slathered in mud, victory and defeat, You Am I will hit the stage and honour the Bad Seed leader.
Get down to Elsternwick Park early on Sunday 26 June, get a pie, and kick against the pricks!
