Lady Gaga is the one to finally bump Adele off the top on this week’s ARIA Album chart wrap.
Despite being released on Monday and therefore missing out on three sales days (although there were steady reports of retailer offering it on Friday anyway), Lady Gaga debuts at number one with platinum sales.
Born This Way beat out the reigning champ Adele, whose 21 was shunted to number two, with Fleetwood Mac holding remarkably steady at number three with their Rumours re-release.
Other debuts to break into the ARIA Album Chart this week include LA synth indie kids Foster The People with their first album Torches hitting number nine.
Icehouse/Flowers re-release of Icehouse/Flowers came in at number 14, Jennifer Hudson’s second album I Remember Me came in at number 26, Hugh Laurie’s Let Them Talk at 37, and Kate Bush’s Director’s Cut at 41.
There were a few re-entries (that weren’t reissues), including the Burlesque soundtrack at 30, Enrique Iglesias’ Euphoria, Gypsy And The Cat’s Gilgamesh at 48 and the Black Eyed Peas’ The Beginning at 49.
The biggest climb came courtesy of James Blunt, whose promo tour helped Some Kind Of Trouble back up to number five from 26.
Other surprises including the persistence of Drapht’s Life Of Riley, still at 22 after eight weeks and a number one debut, and the quick disappearance of the Rome album by Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi, which debuted at 38 last week and is clinging onto the 50 position this week.
And Angus & Julia Stone’s By The Way has finally left the top 50.
