Craven’s Pharmacy, a collaboration between the late Paul Hester and John Clifforth from Deckchairs Overboard is finally going to be released.
Hester, the drummer for Crowded House, died in March 2005. Before Crowded House he was the drummer for Split Enz and before that in Deckchairs Overcoard with Clifforth.
The origins Craven’s Pharmacy date back to 1995 when the early recordings were made at John’s studio in the Melbourne suburb of Elsternwick. Other tracks were laid down at Hester’s home in Elwood.
“Paul Hester was a remarkable drummer with a unique ability to play the song rather than act like a metronome,” John said. “Paul’s death in 2005 had a profound effect on me as I really had no warning such a thing would enter his mind. He was my best friend and for many years I struggled with the fact that I was unable to intervene.”
The later tracks were recorded recently with George Servanis on drums and guitarist Kevin Garrant were encouraged John to finish the project.
Craven’s Pharmacy will be released in June.
The album launch will be at The Toff In Town in Melbourne on June 15.
