The new album from The Shins has made a remarkable debut on the US Billboard 200 chart, claiming second spot.
'Wincing The Night Away' is the third album from the lyrical indie popsters - their first since 2003's 'Chutes Too Narrow'. And it would seem the ensuing anticipation has paid off, with the album shifting some 118,000 copies in its first week. The Shins have given their indie label Sub Pop its highest ever chart position - that record was previously held by Afghan Whigs' album 'Black Love', which made it to 79 back in 1996.
Needless to say, the label are ecstatic, with publicity director Steve Manning gushing, "We here at Sub Pop couldn't be more excited about all the great things that have happened for the band and the label.
"It comes via a lot of hard work by everyone involved and we are privileged to work with such an amazing band and record."
