Ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr leaves UK band The Cribs but has two solo albums in the works.
It seems like an amicable split, with Marr telling Billboard, “Touring and recording with Ryan, Gary and Ross has been fantastic and [The Cribs’ 2009 album] Ignore The Ignorant is something I'm really proud of. We ended up doing much more than we originally set out to, and I've made three good friends.”
Marr joined the UK band officially in 2008 and their fourth effort, the UK top ten charting and critically-acclaimed Ignore The Ignorant, was the only album he contributed to.
But never fear, Marr fans, he’s seemingly unstoppable. He’s already at work on his very first solo albums.
He said to Billboard, “I'm working on new solo songs. I'll be putting out two records over the next year or so and doing more film soundtrack work."
While he has featured as a guest on countless albums (from Billy Bragg, Beck, Pet Shop Boys, Pearl Jam, Oasis and more) and spent time in The Smiths, Modest Mouse, The The, Electronic and with backing band The Healers, he’s yet to release a true solo album.
Now we can look forward to two. And more soundtrack work following his contribution to the score for action blockbuster Inception.
