Adele has finally hit number one, alongside plenty of surprises on this week’s ARIA chart.
UK chanteuse Adele has finally topped the Australian album chart with her album 21 after fourteen weeks in.
But the surprise isn’t that she knocked Foo Fighters’ already-platinum Wasting Light album off the chart.
It’s that Wasting Light slipped to third spot behind the second album This Modern Glitch from cheeky UK band The Wombats.
Another surprise? A new Glee album – Glee: The Music Presents The Warblers – only debuted at number six.
More surprises? A CD by the Continuous Call Team called Weekend Detention With The Continuous Call Team debuted at number 19. The CCT? It’s a rugby-themed radio program.
Other debuts include Roy Orbison’s Monument Singles Collection at 26 (that’s sounds about right), Andre Rieu’s Moonlight Serenade at 34 (a bit low), the soundtrack to Fast And Furious 5 – Rio Heist at 39 (what?) and Paul Simon’s So Beautiful Or So What at 44 (yup).
Apart from all of the above, there weren’t any huge movements this week. Adele’s other album, 19, rose from 44 to 30. Architecture In Helsinki dropped from 27 to 48. Almost everything else was pretty stable. Angus And Julia Stone in their 59th week in the Top 50.
