Bono has joined British Prime Minister Tony Blair in again calling for more aid to Africa, this time at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Bono was taking his message directly to the political and business leaders at the conference, as he again attempted to convince them to make good on their promise that Africa's foreign debts should be wavered to help ensure the continent's future."There were some serious promises made," the U2 frontman said. "The cheques were signed but as you know, politicians like signing cheques but they don't like cashing them."
Bono pointed out that the current generation of young people, who have been vocal in their support of the worldwide Make Poverty History campaign, may become cynical if promises are not kept.
"I think it's important that the momentum is redoubled for the G-8 meeting this June in Germany," Bono continued.
Whilst noting that the biggest challenge faced by Africa is corruption, he also added, "Africa is this magical, extraordinary continent and we've got to start describing it more as an opportunity than a burden."
