During her US tour, Prime Minister Julia Gillard gifted the US President with an all-Australian iPod playlist.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that on her first visit to the US as Prime Minister of Australia, she presented President Obama with an iPod full of Australian music, from Eddy Current Suppression Ring to Cat Empire to Paul Kelly to Savage Garden to Bliss N Eso to Saltwater Band to Tame Impala to Tina Arena.
The 143-song playlist features the entirety of Bernard Fanning’s Tea And Sympathy and Jimmy Barnes The Rhythm And The Blues and much of Crowded House’s Greatest Hits (who we’re willing to claim, since they formed in Melbourne and had Australian members).
Some are already raging that it’s missing classics like ‘Down Under’, ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ or any John Farnham, Chisel or Angels
There is also a dearth of artists outside the rock, pop and folk genres; no classical, no jazz, no electro.
