Bassist Dave Pajo has “tagged out” of Interpol for Animal Collective collaborator Brad Truax.
Following recent touring duties, Pajo “is tagging out” of the band, according to their website.
He announced on the site, “I would like to announce that I will no longer be performing live with Interpol on their upcoming campaign. I’ll be taking a break from touring to focus on family. There are no personal, artistic or health reasons—it’s really as simple as that!”
The band wrote “We’re all friends. It’s just an Out-of-the-hotel, Into-the-home sorta thing. He’s going to be missed to be sure. Aside from being an exceptional musician, Pajo is a wonderful person to be around. He’s sharp as a tack and funny as all get-out. Anyway, if you saw us perform recently, I’m sure you’ll agree - we were lucky to have him.”
They then announced new bassman Brad Truax, who has worked with Animal Collective, White Magic, Cass McCombs, Soldiers Of Fortune, Gang Gang Dance and more.
Truax will play his first show with the band in Hamburg on March 3.
When we spoke to Interpol frontman Paul Banks, he noted that they were not necessarily looking to enlist David Pajo as a full-time member of the band anyway.
He told Undercover, “We’re not even really looking that far ahead, because we just have this record to promote. The band doesn’t traditionally write new music while we’re on the road. We wait for the campaign to wrap up and go into the studio so… we’ll see what happens.”
