Mark Sultan aka BBQ has gathered up lots of his punk mates for his next record, including his BBQ buddy King Khan.
Things got ugly between Sultan and King Khan a year ago when they were in Australia for Lou Reed.
“Last time we were here we had a really big falling out,” Mark tells Undercover.fm’s Tim Cashmere. “We had played at the Sydney Opera House for this festival that Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson put on. It was horrible. It carried over when we went to Asia. It was the worst shit ever. It was all over the internet and it seemed a lot more dire than it was. The fact is things went awry and its fine. We both just needed to chill out.”
The two are friends again and King Khan will be on his next record, as well as a lot of other punk friends. Sultan has recorded with members of The Gories, Black Lips, The Spits and Deerhunter as well as King Khan for the record due soon.
“I have Danny from the Gories, Cole from Black Lips, Jared from Black Lips, The Dear Hunter, Aaron from The Spits, King Khan I am getting him to do something for me because we are still buddies and other people that I just know,” Mark says.
He likes the idea of collaborations. “Its good, if I can build the base of something and have them throw their something on top of it without it corrupting what was in my mind and it actually makes it better I am so stoked,” he said.
The songs were part of a marathon recording session he put down just prior to Australian tour. “I just recorded 32 songs last month. They are all finished,” he says. “I just have to master them. Because there is so much material I won’t be able to release it all at once”.
