A California court orders that jazz legend Etta James have a medical examination to assess level of care.
A judge in Riverside, California has ordered that Etta James be given an immediate medical evaluation after her son's attorney told the court that the care she is receiving at home could be putting her in "serious danger."
James is suffering from leukemia, dementia and kidney problems and is being treated at her home by a live-in physician who reportedly costs $20,000 per month.
Recently, James' son, Donto, hired a confidential investigator who returned a report on her care that Donto's attorney characterized as "the worst" assessment that had ever seen.
The attorney presented the findings to the court during a hearing over control of the singer's $1 million in assets. Her son is in dispute with Artis Mills who has been James' husband for 41 years.
Part of the issue with the care is that the on-site doctor did a procedure to put a feeding tube into James' stomach at home, something that the attorney alleges should only be done in a hospital.
