The Iggy & The Stooges Big Day Out concerts are putting the 1973 ‘Raw Power’ album back in high rotation for the band.
When The Stooges last played in Australia five years ago, they played only songs from the first two albums.
Original guitarist Ron Asheton was on that tour. He died in 2009.
‘Raw Power’ was the one and only Stooges album to feature James Williamson. It was produced by Iggy then mixed in one day by David Bowie.
The Stooges didn’t last long after Raw Power. Williamson was sacked at one stage, then returned but the band broke up in February 1974 after being dropped by Columbia Records.
Despite that, ‘Raw Power’ went on to achieve legendary status as a pre-punk masterpiece even though The Stooges in their day never sold many records.
When Ron died in 2009 the band still had more shows booked. Iggy toyed with bringing Australian Denis Tek from Radio Birdman in to replace Ron. Iggy contacted Williamson who quit music when the band disbanded and was working as an executive for Sony electronics.
So here is what you can expect from The Stooges this weekend in Melbourne:
