The Frames’ Colm Mac Con Iomaire is currently on a solo Australian tour and is taking the opportunity to perform like you have never seen him before.
“This is my solo project out here so it is completely different from The Frames and The Swell Season,” he tells Undercover.fm. “It is all instrumental with the exception of one or two songs. It is folk based and classical music. It is somewhere between both of those worlds”.
Since the last album from The Frames, Colm released his first solo record. “’The Hare’s Corner’ came out of the end of 2008. For the most part this tour is ‘The Hare’s Corner’ and then four or five pieces I have been working on”.
That’s not to say The Frames are no more. In fact, last month they got together for a tour. “We are on a downtime,” he says. “We actually just played our first tour in December. At the end of last year we decided that it was the 20-year anniversary of The Frames so it made sense to mark the occasion someway. We did about 10 dates in American and five in Europe and finished up in Dublin with another four shows”.
In 2007, The Frames singer Glen Hansard won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Colm says Oscar gets to go to Bingo. “I met Oscar once. That was soon after it happened. I think it’s in his mother’s house and she takes it to Bingo I believe”.
Remaining tour dates for Colm Mac Con Iomaire are:
January 25, 26, 27, Sydney, Spiegeltent
January 28, Melbourne, Melbourne Recital Centre
