Cake has set a new record with the lowest selling number one album of all-time.
The new Cake album ‘Showroom of Compassion’ sold just 44,000 units in the United States in the past week, making it the poorest selling album ever to reach number one since SoundScan started measuring sales in 1991.
Sales in America were down 15% last week compared to the same week in the previous year. They were also down 11% on the week before last. 4.9 million albums were sold in America last week.
The number two album ‘Thank You Happy Birthday’ by Cage The Elephant sold 39,000 units. ‘Speak Now’ by Taylor Swift at no. 3 sold 35,000.
