Soundwave 2011 featured the greatest metal line-up Australia had ever seen and Rob Zombie was the star of the show.
It had been 16 years since White Zombie toured Australia and singer and founder Rob Zombie knew this show was about the history and filling in for lost time.
Visually, the White Zombie classic ‘More Human Than Human’ married Rob’s metal Godliness with his other life as a movie director.

Like any festival, you go with high expectations for some acts, low for others and many you just don’t know what to think and for Soundwave it was no different.
Slayer were amazing. We knew they would be. It was Tom Araya’s first show back since being hospitalised a week ago in Sydney. “Bet you didn’t think you’d see me here,” he said to the crowd.
Queens of the Stone Age also ruled. This band just keeps getting better and now with an arsenal of songs you know, kicking off with ‘Feel Good Hit Of Summer’ after the audience were still dazed and confused by whatever Zack de la Rocha’s One Day As A Lion was meant to be put the show back on track.
Primus were the usual quirky, fun band they always used to be. ‘Tommy The Cat’ was the obvious showstopper. I don’t think anyone noticed Les Claypool as the guy who sings the South Park theme.
Slash was slow to kick in but by the time he got to ‘Sweet Child O Mine’, well, that is a song no-one can fuck up.
Iron Maiden headlined. This is one of the great metal acts of all time. Maiden spared no expensive on this show. It was the complete 2 hour set from a stadium gig including the giant Eddie playing guitar during ‘Iron Maiden’. But guys, would it have been asked too much to play your biggest hit ‘Run To The Hills’?
