Powerpop champ and co-writer of ‘Hanging On The Telephone’ Paul Collins will tour Oz in March.
As a member of The Nerves, The Breakaways and The Beat, Paul Collins helped define powerpop in the ‘70s and ‘80s.
The Nerves wrote ‘Hanging On The Telephone’, which you may remember as a massive hit for Blondie.
They, and Collins’ subsequent bands, were instrumental in creating a template for US punk.
He’ll finally visit Australia for the first time this March cranking out his peppy, poppy cult classics from his latest album King Of Power Pop with backing from The Zeros (ex-Screaming Tribesmen, Kings Of The Sun).
He said in a press release of the tour, “I can’t believe it’s finally happening. We will be ripping.”
He’ll so far be playing two shows in Melbourne: Saturday 26 March at the Tote in Collingwood and Sunday 27 March at Pure Pop Records in St. Kilda, with a special conversation section with Leaping Larry L.
Tickets are available from the venues now.
