James Brown is still lying in state at his South Carolina home as legal wrangles continue to divide his family and former partner.
Brown may not be buried until February, with construction yet to be completed on a mausoleum at the home. Funeral director Charlie Reid told the Reuters news agency that the Godfather of Soul's body remains in its bronze and gold-plated coffin, itself in a temperature controlled environment.Brown's former partner, backup dancer Tomi Rae Hynie is currently suing for 50 per cent of his estate, after receiving nothing in the will. The two were never legally married, after it was revealed that her previous marriage had never been properly annulled.
They had one child together, five-year-old James Joseph Brown II, for whom she wants one-seventh of the remainder of the Brown estate. Lawyers have described her demands as "preposterous".
