Qantas has had a change of heart after banning musicians from carrying musical instruments on-board their aircraft as carry-on luggage.
A Facebook protest started by sax player Jamie Oehlers has caused the Qantas turn-around.
Former Redgum singer John Schumann also became very vocal writing that it was “an obsession with profits, the airline is fleecing artists”.
Qantas confirmed on Thursday that it had backed down to public pressure, spurred on by a force of more than 8,700 people who registered for the Facebook page. Qantas says they reversed their policy because of “feedback received directly by our customer care team”.
Small musical instruments no longer than 81 centimetres, no higher than 30 centimetres and no more than 19 centimetres deep are once again allowed as carry-on luggage. Grand Pianos are still banned.
