The Dirty Three’s Warren Ellis is waving the Aussie Rules flag this week with thanks to a branded Meredith Music Festival TW Sherrin football given to the artists who played the Festival this year.
Meredith artists were gifted the Sherrin footballs as a special thank-you from Aunty Meredith.
The Dirty Three were the headline act at Meredith on the Saturday night. Afterwards, Ellis and his youngest son traveled to Paris, took the football and are kicking it around the parks of Paris.
The footy idea came from Meredith organizers Matt High and Greg Peele who wanted to do something different for the artists to mark the 20th anniversary of the event.
The result is that Meredith via Warren Ellis have now become the unlikely ambassadors for the Aussie Rules expansion into the cultural heart of Europe.
Ellis is also a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Grinderman.
