Superproducer Diplo (the man behind MIA and Major Lazer) is curating tunes from legendary reggae label Greensleeves.
Pitchfork reports, via XLR8R, that the producer has been given license to select and blend songs from the Greensleeves label for a compilation called Riddimentary: Diplo Selects Greensleeves.
Greensleeves is renowned for releasing scores of classics tracks from reggae’s golden era, founded in 1975 and later scoring hits with Shaggy, Beenie Man and Tippa Irie.
Diplo (and fellow producer Swtich) did an incredible job of choosing Jamaican legends to augment his completely batty Major Lazer electro-reggae explosion Lazers Must Die.
And he’s collaborated heavily with M.I.A., as well as Snoop Dogg, Shakira, Robyn, Kid Cudi, Rolo Tomassi, Die Antwoord and scores more.
Riddimentary features 15 tracks from artists such as Rankin Dread, Prince Jammy, Barrington Levy and Eek-A-Mouse.
Greensleeves was acquired by the largest reggae label in the world, VP Records, in 2008 and VP will release the compilation on February 8 next year.
