It’s that time of year again where we present our favourite releases for the year and this year was exceptionally difficult.
While usually I would try to limit it to a randomly ordered ten favourites, this year was just jam packed with too many brilliant albums, so even after culling eight albums from my list, I was left with fifteen that I simply couldn’t bring myself to cut down any further.
So, without further delay, here are fifteen albums from 2010 in alphabetical order that have been the highlights of my 2010.
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Black Keys - Brothers
The Break - Church Of The Open Sky
Crow - Arcane
Dan Kelly’s Dream Band - Dan Kelly’s Dream
Fabienne Del Sol - On My Mind
Girl Talk - All Day
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Grinderman - Grinderman 2
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Hawk
Little John - Put Your Hands On Me
Mark Ronson & The Business Intl - Record Collection
Neil Young - Le Noise
Roky Erickson & Okkervil River - True Love Cast Out All Evil
The Roots - How I Got Over
UPDATE! Since Holly Golightly and The Brokeoff's album 'Medicine County' was incorrectly listed in my itunes as 2009, it was accidentally overlooked, but 100% deserves to be in this list, which is now a top 16.
Honourable mention goes to ‘Califa: The Songs of Lee Hazlewood’, which doesn’t quite fit in with the top albums of 2010 because it’s a compilation of older songs.
And just because I think these eight artists deserve at least a mention, the eight artists just missed out on the top 15, but still released fantastic albums this year are Charlie Parr, Mavis Staples, Brant Bjork, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Edwyn Collins, Clare Bowditch & The New Slang, Femi Kuti & The Positive Force and Graveyard Train.
Every single album on this list would make a killer Christmas present. Now, get out there and start shopping while I relive these fantastic albums once more.
