Kanye West’s new album is bowling over almost every critic and causing a maelstrom of commentary.
West’s fifth album My Beautiful Twisted Fantasy has just been released and critics are falling over each other to give it a perfect score.
Right now review compiler Metacritic is reporting an average rating of 97/100 across 26 reviews, including “perfect” scores from NOW Magazine, Popmatters, Rolling Stone, Slant Magazine, The Phoenix, Entertainment Weekly and the ever-influential Pitchfork website.
The lowest score recorded, an estimated 80/100, came from AllMusicGuide, musicOMH, Hartford Courant and The Guardian.
The album and the man himself have prompted analytical articles from New York Magazine and The New York Times.
A strange trend has also emerged around his tweets: see this grandma read them aloud on YouTube and these kids reenacting them.
Although uber-producer Quincy Jones is unimpressed, telling US Magazine that Kanye is “just a rapper” and saying “there’s no comparison” between he and West as producers.
So, wanna hear what people are saying is the “Best Album Of The Year”? Listen to it in full at Kanye’s myspace.
Us? We’re liking it plenty.
