Kate Ceberano might be doing something a little different next She is planning on releasing an album of Hawaiian Country.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to really corrupt the profile of Kate Ceberano and really go somewhere risky,” Kate said in an interview with undercover.fm.
During here 26 year career Kate has done jazz, pop and dance but up until now not country. “The Country and Western album is in the can,” she says. “Hawaiian music is essential bluegrass, it is country. It is what I was spoon-fed on. I was breastfed on it actually”.
She has even run the concept past some of the powers that be at Australia’s music capital, Tamworth. “I asked how do you think Tamworth would feel about me doing an Hawaiian country album and do you think it would be a hit on any Richter scale, would they take it on board. And they said that in the 1920s in Melbourne there used to be a Hawaiian country association of musicians. Is that not weird?
The prolific Kate manages to record a new album every year and this one is almost ready for next year. “Most of it has been recorded,” she said. “We did half of it for what was the nucleus of a lullaby record. It is still coming but I think I am turning that into a Country album”.
Meanwhile, Kate’s latest album ‘Merry Christmas’ is out now.
