Short Stack tell Undercover that they came to hate their first album and are now trying to broaden their fans’ musical horizons.
“I went through a stage where I absolutely hated it,” says singer and guitarist Shaun Diviney of their number one debut Stack Is The New Black. “After we recorded the new song I just hated playing the old songs.”
He continues, “It was such an intrinsic part of the journey and it got us to the stage where we are now.”
Bassist Andy Clemmensen says their new album, This Is Bat Country is “so much more current to the stage we are in our lives. In saying that, the fans, because it comes from us, are generally going to go out and buy it anyway.”
“Conventionally, it’s not the kind of music they’re going to listen to, but because it’s coming from us, they’re going to listen to it anyway,” he continues, “So it might broaden their musical horizons”.
“I think with the motifs we’re playing around with, we do have some younger fans, it might go over their heads a little bit, so they might not engage with it as much,” says Diviney.
Watch the interview below to hear them talk about their 40-year-old bikie fans, their 14-year-old girl fans, the dark influences of their new album, mean critics and being on the cover of Rolling Stone.
