Despite their flaws, this year’s ARIA Awards certainly bumped sales for the artists who won and performed.
In this week’s chart, albums from performers on the televised show got a well-deserved lift, although some rises weren’t as significant as they could have been (possibly due to the low ratings of the show).
Angus & Julia Stone performed and won five ARIAs. Their Album Of The Year Down The Way rose from number ten last week to number five this week.
Washington glammed up for a performance, snared two ARIAs, and her album went from 35 to 13.
Both Washington and Angus & Julia Stone’s albums have been solid performers all year anyway.
Birds Of Tokyo only won one ARIA from eight nominations, but their self-titled album still rose from 20 to 15.
Sia opened the show, won three ARIAs, and her album We Are Born came from 39 last week to 18 this week.
John Butler had three nominations, no wins, but a stirring performance helped April Uprising from 31 to 21.
Powderfinger scored a couple of statuettes in the public voting sections, boosting Golden Rule from 71 to 51.
The Temper Trap won two ARIAs as well, Conditions up from 69 to 54 and Dan Sultan’s two ARIAs and a confident performance fronting INXS helped Get Out While You Can just back into the top 100 at 99, from 260.
A closing performance of a reworked ‘Like It Like That’ and six nominations for Guy Sebastian wasn’t enough to get him back in the top 100, but six nominations for Tame Impala put InnerSpeaker back in the charts from 198 to 84.
