It turns out Jessica Mauboy’s embarrassing “debutt” gaff at the ARIA Awards could have been avoided because she said it as rehearsal as well, and no-one corrected her.
Jessica mispronounced the word ‘debut’ as ‘debutt’ twice in reference to the Tame Impala album.
Now co-host Eddie Perfect says it could have been avoided if someone pointed out to her at the time of rehearsal she was saying the word wrong. “Jessica Mauboy’s error could easily have been avoided,” he Tweeted. “She made it in rehearsal. Terrible no-one corrected her, actually”.
She also mispronounced the name of the Tame Impala album ‘Innerspeaker’, calling it ‘Innerspeak’.
Perfect also confirmed what everyone is saying, that the ARIA Awards has little to do with the music industry these days. “A music awards ceremony isn’t the industry it represents. It’s a TV show,” he wrote.
That attitude pretty much sums up why the audience ignored the show. 634000 tuned in for the show. By comparison, US drama ‘Bones’ drew in 1.4 million viewers.
Music fans on Facebook and Twitter have been mauling the show since Sunday night. Despite that, Network Ten issued a press statement this morning calling the show “fantastic”.
