Ambient pioneer Philip Glass and Nick Cave’s garage side-project Grinderman are the first two artists to play at the 2011 incarnation of the Tasmanian arts festival created by Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes and The Break.
The artists shows are listed on the MONA FOMA website.
Other artists announced include Wendy Sutter, Balletlab, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Health, Amanda Palmer, Groupe F, Wire, Speak Percussion, The Break, Botborg, Brook Andrew, Olof Arnalds, and Neil Gaiman.
MONA FOMA stands for Museum Of Old And New Art, Festival of Music and Art.
Next year’s event will be the third festival, showcasing dynamic art and artists.
It runs from January 14 to 23, across various venues around Hobart and, while Philip Glass and Grinderman are ticketed, most events will be free.
