New York no wave pioneers Swans announce their first ever Australian tour.
The band, helmed by Michael Gira, were pivotal in establishing the experimental no wave sound of the ‘80s, which influenced a whole new generation of musicians.
In 1997 Gira dissolved the band and pursued a different path with his Angels Of Light project and recording five albums and performed at the Nick Cave-curated ATP event last year.
Then, this year, Gira announced that he was starting Swans back up, to the joy of avant garde music fans the world over.
Ever the iconoclast, he declared: “THIS IS NOT A REUNION. It’s not some dumb-ass nostalgia act. It is not repeating the past. After 5 Angels Of Light albums, I needed a way to move FORWARD, in a new direction, and it just so happens that revivifying the idea of Swans is allowing me to do that.”
They released their first album in thirteen years, My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky and toured through the US and Europe to critical acclaim.
Now Swans will visit Australia and New Zealand for the first time in their career, joined by Sydney experimentalists The Necks.
Tickets will go on sale for Frontier members on Monday October 25 and Tuesday Ocotber 26 from noon each day, and to the general public from 9am on Wednesday October 27.
