The 2006 wrap up of Australian charts has been announced, with safe, commercial pop taking out the awards.
In the singles chart, Sandi Thom's controversial 'I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair)' has taken out the coveted highest selling single spot.Australian's flocked to the non-threatening sounds of James Blunt's 'Back To Bedlam', which was the highest selling album for 2006.
Interestingly enough with Sandi Thom being crowned the Queen of Australian singles, it seems those buying the albums weren't so impressed, smugly placing her at #78.
Other notable inclusions are Human Nature, who's two Motown covers albums clocked in at #3 and #14 respectively.
Rock 'n' roll wasn't entirely overlooked, with Youth Group's cover of Alphaville's 'Forever Young' eventually settling in at #7 and Wolfmother's self titled debut taking out #4 position.
Jet's 2nd album 'Shine On' came in at a disappointing #50.
The singles chart is far more pop oriented, with just one of the top ten being a guitar based track (Youth Group's 'Forever Young').
The Pussycat Dolls have done well in the charts, with four appearances for 'Buttons', 'Beep', 'Stickwitu' and 'I Don't Need A Man'.
The Wooden Spoon award goes to Kate Alexa with 'All I Hear' at #100 in the singles charts and 'High Times, The Singles - 1992 - 2006' by Jamiroquai.
