British ska band 7 Seconds of Love claim Coca-Cola copied the music and music video of their song 'Ninja' in a South American advertisement.
The video features a dancing cat dressed as a ninja, as does the advertisement which was aired in Argentina. The band's video was featured extensively on the internet. Moreover, the band claims the ad's soundtrack is a direct rip-off of the original tune. The advertisement was first brought to the attention of the unsigned act by their South American fans, who thought the band had helped Coca-Cola with the campaign. At first, the band thought nothing of it, until the ad started appearing on the internet.
"We'd heard about a Ninja-style Coke TV ad from fans in Argentina. Some people believed we must have made it," said lead singer Joel Veitch.
"When they put the campaign online and we saw it for the first time we just couldn't believe the resemblance. It's not just the music, but the visual style too - our collective jaws dropped."
The band are considering suing the multinational giant, but seem hesitant in taking on what they describe as "the biggest brand in the world".
