The XX have taken out the coveted Mercury Music Prize in a ceremony in London last night.
The band took out the prize for the 2009 debut album, 'xx' released through Young Turks.Recently a surge of bets on Paul Weller taking out the top spot caused bookies to rethink their odds and make him the favourite, but the original favourite came through in the end.
The prize was presented to the band by Jools Holland.
"Wow, thank you so much, we've had the most incredible year," the band's Oliver Sim said in their acceptance speech. "It feels like every day we've woken up to something incredible that we weren't expecting. It's felt like a haze and just being here has been like a weird moment of clarity of all that's happened. It means so much."
Previous winners have included Primal Scream, Klaxons, Portishead, Pulp, Dizzee Rascal, PJ Harvey, Gomez, Badly Drawn Boy and more.
