Kate Ceberano has been named as the Artistic Director for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival for 2012 and 2013.
Kate will follow in David Campbell's footsteps. David is Artistic Director for 2010 and 2011."I'm very excited and motivated to get into my role as Artistic Director of Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2012-2013," Kate said in a statement. "To be able to craft an event that invites the level of talent and creativity for Australian audiences is in itself inspirational, but to also work with the calibre of directors and administrators, who have to date, been making this festival one of the most successful in the world is thrilling."
"I have huge admiration for David and his wife Lisa and what they have achieved over the last two years. He is an inspiration and a great friend and understands exactly what it is to strive to make a difference and really aim for something sky high!!! He mirrors my dreams as an artist. And I'm going to be very challenged and motivated to continue to create the standard he has set," she said.
South Australia Premier Mike Rann has welcomed Kate to the job. "David put on a spectacular 10th Anniversary Cabaret Festival this year and I look forward to next year's Festival under his visionary artistic leadership, he said. "I'm delighted that Kate Ceberano has agreed to take over the Festival from 2012, and as we prepare for a new era, I am happy to announce today that the one off funding of $500,000 allocated for the special 10th anniversary event is now to be ongoing".
David Campbell will open his final Cabaret Festival in Adelaide on June 10. "It is an honour to run the Festival and Kate Ceberano could not be a more fabulous successor. She is a dear friend, an exceptional performer and I look forward to seeing what she does with the 2012 program," he said.
