Rod Stewart can add the letters CBE after his name after receiving the New Year's honour from her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Commander Rod Stewart (as he may now be called), was given the honor for his work in music which has spanned 40 years.He has had 62 hits in the UK and has sold more than 200 million records worldwide. Of 61 year old Stewart's 62 hits, 24 went Top 10 and six reached number one.
In a statement, Stewart said "Although I'm living in California, I'm very proud to be British. We will be celebrating the good news later today".
Stewart will begin his next American tour on January 12 in Ft. Lauderdale and end in Denver on April 2nd.
Just last week, Buckingham Palace announced that U2 singer Bono would receive an honorary knighthood in this year's honors list.
