Julian Casablancas has revealed that their new album won’t see daylight until March 2011.
The Strokes' singer and now solo artist confessed to BBC6 that the band's fourth studio album is "half-way done".The band began writing the as-yet-untitled album in January of 2009 and it had previously been suggested that it would have a January 2011 release date. But Casablancas admits that they've been having trouble getting to work.
He said in the BBC6 interview, "that we keep thinking, 'OK, we'll do it, for like these three weeks and then we'll be done.' And then we do it and we decide that we're not done, or something comes in the way."
The Strokes' plans have been continually delayed since 2006's First Impressions Of Earth by side projects.
Casablancas released his solo album Phrazes For The Young in October 2009. Nick Valensi worked on Sia's We Are Born. Albert Hammond Jr released solo albums in 2006 and 2008. Nikolai Fraiture released an album by side project Nickel Eye in January 2009. Fabrizio Moretti has been drumming in side project Little Joy.
Despite the extended break and scattering of members, Casablancas confirmed that finishing a new Strokes album is his priority, although he also confessed that he's taking the band "One record at a time."
