Dennis Hopper has lost his battle with cancer.
The iconic actor who first made a name for himself in the cult-classic ‘Rebel Without A Cause’ with James Dean in 1955, died at his home in Venice, California. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in September 2009.After ‘Rebel Without A Cause’ and then ‘Giant’ a year later, also with Dean, Hopper’s career came to a halt. It wasn’t until he directed and starred in what has become his signature movie ‘Easy Rider’ that his career reached the level it maintained until his death. Hopper gave Jack Nicholson his first big break in ‘Easy Rider’.
Major film followed. He was a featured actor in ‘Apocalypse Now’ (1979), ‘Rumblefish’ (1983) and ‘The Osterman Weekend (1983).
In 1994, he co-starred as the baddy in ‘Speed’ alongside Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.
In recent years, Hopper was the narrator of the song "Fire Coming out of the Monkey's Head" from Gorillaz ‘Demon Days’ album.
Hopper was married six times. His most recent marriage to Victoria Duffy was the subject of controversy at the time of his death because in March this year Hopper had her written out of his will.
Dennis Hopper had four children by four different wives, three daughters and a son. He also leaves behind two granddaughters.
