Wu-Tang Clan master producer RZA has got the go-ahead for his kung-fu film debut.
It’s no secret that a huge part of the Wu-Tang Clan’s success is due to RZA’s Spartan production and his lifelong obsession with kung-fu movie mythology. He will finally contribute to the chop-socky pantheon with The Man With The Iron Fists.
The project has been in the pipes for years and now Universal have finally thrown $20 million at RZA to get it made.
The idea was born when RZA and Inglourious Basterds star and horror director Eli Roth were snowed in in Boston with Quentin Tarantino.
RZA and Roth co-wrote the script, where RZA will play a blacksmith who makes weapons in feudal China and has to fight for his life. Shooting begins in Hong Kong in September. No word on whether the rest of the Wu will appear.
Not only will RZA be the co-writer, director and star of The Man With The Iron Fists, but he’ll also produce the soundtrack.
This is spectacular news for fans of his musical work on urban samurai cult film Ghost Dog and Tarantino epic Kill Bill.
And probably also for those who dug his sounds in Miami Vice, Blade: Trinity and Soul Plane.
