Tim Wheeler, frontman and founder of Northern Ireland rockers Ash, has expressed his concerns about the band's future.
Ash are again a three-piece, following the departure of long-time guitarist Charlotte Hatherley. The band continues in its original format, with Wheeler joined by childhood friends Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray. As a trio, Ash released their seminal 90s rock album '1977', which showcased such now-classic tunes as 'Kung Fu', 'Girl From Mars' and 'Goldfinger'.But Wheeler's concerns aren't necessarily associated with the departure of Hatherley. He's more concerned about the band's ageing fanbase becoming disinterested in the group, whose debut album boasted the words "Guaranteed Real Teenagers".
He says, "I think we're totally underrated. That's really annoying. I think it's because we've been around so long. People get jaded."
Ash's new album, their sixth, is slated for a July release. Hatherley recently released her second solo album, 'The Deep Blue', which peaked at number seven on the UK indie album chart.
