Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse `Dark Night Of The Soul`, one of the most talked about and freely downloaded albums of the past 12 months, is finally going to be released.
The album was shelved a last year by EMI who by refusing to release the album turned it into a Bit Torrent hit.Beside of the dispute with the record company, Danger Mouse and Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse) made it freely available via Bit Torrents to get it out to people.
Twin Peaks creator David Lynch released an accompanying book with a collection of original photos and the book came with a blank disc encouraging fans to download it and record to disc anyway they could.
Now EMI has had second thoughts and will release the album in June.
The album features an all-star cast including he Flaming Lips, Gruff Rhys, Jason Lytle, Julian Casablancas, Black Francis, Iggy Pop, David Lynch, James Mercer, Nina Persson, Suzanne Vega and Vic Chesnutt.
Sadly, Linkous committed suicide in March. The album will now serve as a tribute to him.
