Iconic St Kilda record store Pure Pop Records has been battling noise complaints from neighbours over its regular free artist showcases.
Every week, Pure Pop Records puts on live music in store and some local residents are not impressed.“Thanks to everyone who has expressed concern about our wellbeing in the light of rumours circulating about our imminent closure. It is not the case. Yes we have noise issues but we are implementing procedures so that these can be overcome. In the meantime, some of our lineups may be a bit skinny as we've had to cull some acts that are on the "noisy" side”, states their current newsletter.
Artists performing this week include Jeff May tonight from 7pm, Jack’s Castle on Saturday at 4pm and Doug De Vries and Stephen Cummings on Sunday afternoon.
The plan is to seek legal advice after the complaints, as the shows are over well before noise curfew. “We will soon receive an expert report as to what measures can be taken to minimise noise spillage to neighbouring properties. If costs are prohibitive then we will have to rethink our future plans so despite the headline of this article, this is a very serious period in the life of Pure Pop,” they say.
Artists coming soon to Pure Pop include Jez Mead, Marshall & the Fro, The Snowdroppers, Oh Mercy, Black Cab, "Golden Guitar" winner Victoria Baille, The Skybombers, Dirty York, Rob Sawyer, The Gin Club, the return of wayward son CJ Shaw flanked by his ever reliable sideman Mad Dog, Eleanor Angel, Georgia Fields, Joel Plaskett (Canada), Gemma Ray (UK) and Benjalu.
Pure Pop Records is unique in that it is a licensed venue.
