Gary Numan is one of the casualties of the Iceland volcano.
With Britain currently under a cloud of ash jetting into the stratosphere by the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano in Iceland, a host of acts can't make it to the festival. The Icelandic volcano, which erupted on Thursday (April 15), has seen all the UK's airports close and all flights grounded until Sunday 1pm at the earliest. Hopes that airports in the North East of England may reopen on Saturday have also been dashed.
While many people's holidays or business trips have been put on hold, the biggest crisis in the music world is the Coachella festival, which is taking place in California this weekend.
Among the British acts that are not likely to be making it to the fest are former New Order man Bernard Sumner's new project Bad Lieutenant, The Cribs, Los Campesinos! and electro legend Gary Numan.
But some of the most worrying news follows below.
The last eruption of the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano was on 20 March, when a 0.5km-long fissure opened up on the eastern side of the glacier at the Fimmvoerduhals Pass. The eruption prior to that started in 1821 - and continued intermittently for more than a year! (let's hope this one burns out slightly quicker).
