Melbourne is special for Crowded House. It was where Neil Finn, Nick Seymour and Paul Hester formed the band in 1985.
While Neil Finn is 100% Kiwi, Crowded House is an Australian band through and through. Coming to Melbourne is coming home for this band the audience knows it.
This show was a casual outing for Neil Finn who joked around about the city sporting ethic and threw a few curve balls into the songs. ‘Weather With You’ had elements of Frankie Goes To Hollywood ‘Relax’, ‘Hot Chocolate’s ‘You Sexy Thing’ and CCR’s ‘Born On The Bayou’. ‘Four Seasons In One Day’ gave us a bit of The Beatles ‘I’m Only Sleeping’.
It’s had to believe Crowded House have been around for 25 years now and the setlist shows it. Every album was featured from the debut in ’85 (4 tracks), ‘Temple of Low Men’ from ’88 (3 tracks), ‘Woodface’ from ’91 (6 tracks), ‘Together Alone’ from ’93 (4 tracks), ‘Time On Earth’ from 2007 (1 track) and ‘Intriguer’ from 2010 (4 tracks).
This was a full-tilt two hour showing presenting the best of one of the greatest acts to have ever formed in Melbourne.
