Singer-songwriter Bobby Charles, who wrote `See You Later Alligator` and `Walking To New Orleans`, has died at the age of 71.
Charles was at the height of his fame in the 50s when Bill Haley recorded ‘See You Later Alligator’ and Fats Domino recorded ‘Walking To New Orleans’.Charles also wrote the Clarence ‘Frogman’ Henry song ‘(I Don’t Know Why I Love You) But I Do’, featured more recently in Forrest Gump.
Charles performed with Dr John and The Band for ‘The Last Waltz’ in 1976. While that song did not make the movie, he is seen performing ‘I Shall Be Released’ with Bob Dylan later in the movie.
Charles collapsed and died at his home in Abbeville on January 14.
